MIKUMI NATIONAL PARK – GENERAL INFORMATION

  Mikumi National Park is located  in the north of the Selous Game Reserve in Morogoro region. It is bordered by Uluguru Mountains in the North and Rubeho Mountains to the south-east. The main feature in the park is Mkata River Flood Plain . The park was extended to border with Selous in 1975 . It was gazetted in 1964 during the construction of Morogoro- Iringa  highway. The park shares the eco-system with the Selous Game Reserve , and Kilombero Game Controlled Area . With 3,230 square kilometers coverage Mikumi National Park is well-known park in Tanzania . The park is well-known for its population of elephants, giraffes buffaloes, zebras, elands, greater Kudu, wildebeest, roan and sable antelope. Predators include tree-climbing lions (which are in large number), leopards, wild hunting dogs and black-backed jackal. More than 400 species of birds have been recorded here including Eurasian migrants such as red billed oxpecker, marabou stork and lilac breasted roller, which

DAY TRIP TO BAGAMOYO

After breakfast, 09:00 local time , depart from Dar es Salaam city center to Bagamoyo. Bagamoyo has played various historical roles in Tanzania . Apart from being a slave and ivory port, it was also a German headquarter in 1891. Explorers such as Burton , Speke, Grant, Livingston and Stanley all passed through this town. The name Bagamoyo comes from the Swahili words “bwaga moyo”, meaning “throw down your heart,” a despair expressed by people who were captured as slaves, knowing that they faced uncertain future. On arrival, visit the Kaole Ruins, ruins of the Shirazai trade town (13 th - 17 th century), Old ferry on the mighty Rufiji River .  Lunch will be served at Paradise Holiday Resort. (Visit of the Bagamoyo School of Arts for a Ngoma (traditional dance) session may be arranged upon prior notice. Extra cost applies). The tour ends in Dar es Salaam city center at around 17:30 local time.  On your way back, pass at Dawasco Treatment Plant, before returning to your Hotel/Lo
